Where did MTM begin?

Built by artists. Evolving with the industry.

MTM College began with a simple idea: Artists deserve real training that prepares them for real careers.

It was founded in 1996 by two artists who saw a gap. People wanted to learn animation and visual storytelling, but there were very few places teaching focused, practical skills. So they started teaching.

What began as a small, hands-on learning environment quickly grew, not because they had set out to build a business, but  because artists kept asking for more.

How our Programs Evolve

Every program at MTM exists for a reason. As the creative industries evolved, so did we.

Illustration and Storytelling for Sequential Arts was built because there were almost no programs teaching how to actually create comics and visual stories from start to finish.

Concept Art for Animation and Video Games was added when artists needed training that combined strong fundamentals with real production design for games and film.

Animation continues to evolve alongside studio pipelines, balancing traditional skills with modern tools.

We don’t build programs based on trends. We build them based on what artists need to succeed.

Who We Are Today

MTM College is still intentionally small and focused. We keep class sizes low so students receive direct feedback, real mentorship, and meaningful guidance from instructors who are actively working in animation, concept art, and illustration. We stay closely connected to industry studios, alumni, and current students to ensure our training remains relevant, practical, and aligned with real career paths.

As the industry evolves, so do we. Our programs are now available both in-person in downtown Toronto and online across Canada, making high-level training more accessible without lowering the standard. Our curriculum continues to adapt based on industry expectations, new tools, and the realities of creative careers today.

Where You Fit In

MTM is built around a clear focus:

• Strong fundamentals
• Real mentorship
• Career-ready results

We’re not here to churn through artists. We’re here to develop close relationships with our students, and provide them exactly what they need to succeed as a professional.

To attend MTM – you don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need the willingness to improve. MTM was built to provide you the tools to do so.
