Kate Reid

Open House 2020

Kate Reid has an ability to tell a story in one frame. She has taken inspiration and learned from the techniques of her favourite animators, Hayao Miyazaki and Tim Burton. Her studies in theatre encouraged her story-telling and creative thinking which segued wonderfully with her deliberate and stylish illustration skills.

Kate is excited about the future. She plans to be deeply involved in animation, illustration and original character development, for an industry that has been a constant source of inspiration.

Prior to attending Max the Mutt, she produced a short animated film,“I’m Afraid”, an exploration of teenage fears and anxiety as shared by one Canadian Grade 12 Drama Class. This film was a collaboration with her Unionville high school classmates and was accepted into TAAFI – Toronto Animated Arts Festival International, Toronto Youth Shorts, Scout Film Festival in Stowe, Vermont, Animaze – Montreal International Animation Film Festival and the Teen Truth Film Festival and Santa Monica International Teen Film Festival in California.Ā

Now a Year 3 student at Max the Mutt, Kate is completing a 2D computer animated film and has also been working with her classmates on pre-production for their year 4 group film.
