June Yim had this to say about her experiences, why she chose to study Classical & Computer Animation & Production and why art is important:
“My whole life as an artist was started or inspired by just one game.
I can’t believe the same game to this day is still one of the most popular games in my country and I too am still playing it. 12 year old me loved the game so much that I began drawing the characters every day. This is what started my interest in other games and other types of animation too. Of course I loved Disney and Japanese animations also, but it was this first game, and its animation, that inspired me to try to draw characters of my own.
Then Tim Burton’s fabulous animation “Coraline“, from Laika Studios, caught my attention suddenly and I fell in love with stop-motion animation. This was the type of animation that made me dream of being an animator. Unfortunately, I was not good at sculpting with my own hands. However, I still love how old fashion traditional 2D animation looked rather than the 3D animation that have been recently released. When I found Max the Mutt I could see that it was the place to learn about traditional animation, the importance of basic skills and how to become an artist.
After graduating, I would like to be a Background artist or Character designer. I have an interest in 3D modelling too, but there’s still a lot of things I have to master. I think that the possibilities are endless for my future. I believe having lots of dreams and big ambitions will continue to encourage me to learn every day and this will only make me a better artist.”
